Carers’ Week event attracts record number of Vale carers

Carers throughout the Vale of Glamorgan attended an event at Dyffryn Gardens on Tuesday 15th June to celebrate Carers’ Week 2010.

This ever popular annual event was organised by Kate Isaac and Joanne Meek of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, with assistance from many caring organisations within the Vale. Carers and their dependent relatives enjoyed a relaxing day, taking advantage of therapies  such as face massage, arts and crafts sessions, and guided walks in the grounds of Dyffryn House. There was an opportunity to visit the many information stalls, and a buffet lunch was provided.

Carers’ Week 2010 research reveals many carers have ‘no life of their own’

Today marks the start of Carers’ Week 2010. Organised by a consortium of seven national charities, over 100,000 carers take part in the thousands of activities held in every part of the UK.

Carers’ Week highlights the issues and difficulties faced by those caring for an ill, frail or disabled loved one. According to research carried out in the lead-up to Carers’ Week, 76% of carers do not have a life outside of their caring role.

Bryn Terfel is highlight of CAMEO Group’s Millennium Centre Tour

Members of Crossroads Care in the Vale’s CAMEO Group attended a backstage tour of Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay on 10th June.

The tour guide spent over an hour with the group explaining the inspiration behind this landmark building, which was designed by architect, Jonathan Adams, and constructed using mostly Welsh materials, such as slate from Blaenau Ffestiniog and local steel.

British Red Cross make daily living made easier through P.A.L.S. presentation at carers’ group

For many years, the British Red Cross has operated a Community Equipment Loans Service throughout South East Wales. In more recent years, they have also provided a service whereby members of the public can view and purchase a wide range of medical equipment and aids to daily living. This service has become known as P.A.L.S. (Practical Aids to Living).
