Generous donation from local running club helps carers

Clem presents Jo with the cheque

Members of a local running club, Penarth and Dinas Runners, have recently shown their support to Crossroads Care in the Vale by making a generous donation of £250 to the charity.

The club, whose members run regularly from Penarth Leisure Centre and Cosmeston Country Park, organise two races each year – the Porthkerry Plod in Barry and the Cosmeston Relays. These popular events have raised considerable funds over the years, and the committee of Penarth and Dinas Runners recently asked club members to nominate the charities they felt should receive a donation.

Several local charities were proposed, including Crossroads Care in the Vale, MIND, the Better Life Appeal and the JAM Fund. After much deliberation by the committee, the donation was divided equally between Crossroads Care and the Better Life Appeal which supports people with Cystic Fibrosis.

Jo Hendry of Crossroads Care was presented with a cheque by the Chairman of Penarth and Dinas Runners, Clem Clement. Jo said, “I would like to thank the committee and members of Penarth and Dinas Runners for recognising the needs of local carers of relatives with dementia. The £250 donation will go a long way to help continue providing emotional and practical support to carers.”
