Feathered friends bring delight to Penarth Group

Members of Crossroads Care in the Vale’s Penarth Social Group received a visit from some owls at their January meeting.

Anne Bird and Alan and Loena Sheppard of ‘Owls 4 U’ brought seven of their feathered friends to visit the group. Asha, Bart, Dai, Dusty, Honey, Babe and Merlin seemed to enjoy the attention they received, and some were even happy to be held and stroked by group members.

Anne talked about each owl, their history and habitat, and she also explained how ‘Owls 4 U’ came to be established when Barry Swan Rescue closed. One owl had been bought as a pet for a child when the Harry Potter books became popular; another owl was rescued from Cosmeston Country Park.

Anne explained that the rescued owls make regular visits to clubs, schools, events, parties and day centres. The birds are used to being around people, and settle quickly in new environments.

If you would like to arrange a visit from Anne and the owls, please telephone 01446 679295 or 07901 534463. You can also email Anne.owls4u@gmail.com or write to 16 Milward Road, Barry CF63 3QD.

There is no charge for the visit, but a donation would be welcome to help take care of these beautiful birds.
