Money Health Check Scheme offers support for Vale residents

The Vale of Glamorgan Citizen’s Advice Bureau is running a Money Health Check Scheme until 31st March 2011.

Jointly supported by the Vale of Glamorgan Council and the Wellbeing Activity Grant Scheme, CAB is aiming to help people in the Vale ensure they are in receipt of all benefits to which they are entitled. The Scheme will also provide advice for those worried about their fuel costs.

Cardiff and Vale Councils provide emergency card scheme for carers

Carers often worry what would happen if they were suddenly taken ill and unable to tell someone that they have a dependent relative at home with care needs.

With this in mind, Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan Councils have come together to launch a scheme to give peace of mind to people caring for a relative or friend, especially if they are the sole carer.

Moderate exercise gives memory boost

Research carried out by the University of Pittsburgh in the US has revealed that moderate exercise in middle age can improve memory.

Walking for just forty minutes several times a week can increase the size of the hippocampus which is the part of the brain that stores memories. The research involved healthy people in their 60’s but the results may have positive implications for ageing societies where dementia is on the increase.
