Crossroads Group tours Cardiff Castle

CAMEO members explore Cardiff Castle

Crossroads Care in the Vale’s CAMEO Group enjoyed a guided tour of Cardiff Castle apartments recently.

Parts of the Castle date back around 2,000 years. The third Marquess of Bute who, in the 1860’s, was reputedly the richest man in the world, commissioned the architect William Burges to design the interior of the Castle lodgings. Each room has its own theme, including Mediterranean, Italian and Arabic decoration.
Although the third Marquess of Bute died in 1900 at the age of 53, the Bute family continued to live in the Castle until the death of the 4th Marquess of Bute in 1947.  The Castle was then given to the people of Cardiff by the 5th Marquess.
Crossroads Care in the Vale’s CAMEO  Group is for former carers of relatives with dementia. The end of a caring role can often lead to feelings of isolation, so the group members keep in touch by meeting socially on a monthly basis.
