Penarth Social Group hear about The Royal Tournament

On Monday 20th August the Penarth Social Group (made up of carers and their loved ones living with dementia) heard Bill Lee speak about his experiences in producing The Royal Tournament during the 1980s.  This included interesting anecdotes about the challenges of putting on such an event and his meetings with some of the royals.  The group enjoyed Bill’s cheerful and humorous talk.  This group meets in Stanwell Road Baptist Church on the third Monday of the month at 2pm.  It is for those who are currently caring and for their family member with dementia.  There is a facilitator and a care worker at each group.  If you would like to know more about the group contact Matt on 02920 700057 option 3.

Fire Safety Checks

Crossroads Care in the Vale has recently joined a new initiative working in partnership with the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service. This new partnership has resulted in a number of our care workers and the care coordinators undertaking training with the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service to enable them to conduct Home Fire Safety Checks. The fire safety checks are now in the process of being undertaken. A number of clients and carers have already had a fire safety check and the necessary fire safety equipment such as smoke alarms, extension leads, fire resistant bedding etc has been provided free of charge via the South Wales Fire and rescue Service. Can I encourage you to consent to having a home fire safety check, it is free of charge and it will give increased peace of mind regarding the fire safety of your relatives home.

Satisfaction Questionnaire 2012-We have had a good number of questionnaires returned and we are now busily collating the results which should be available during September 2012. Many thanks to those who have taken the time to return completed questionnaires, we value all of your comments and suggestions.            Susie Moreton (Care Co-ordinator)

Hello From The Hague

I have been living in the Netherlands for over a month now, and feel very settled here. My husband started work at the International Baccalaureate on 1st August, and I am busy job-hunting. I am also looking into the possibility of doing voluntary work, and have an interview with an expat organisation in September.

We like our apartment. It is light and spacious, and in a good spot for shops, bars and restaurants. We’re just a twenty minute walk from the city centre but we often catch the tram as there is a stop nearby. We’ve joined a gym about ten minutes’ walk from the apartment which also runs exercise classes like spin, pilates etc.  However, the best exercise we have had has been assembling Ikea furniture!
