Caring in numbers

  • Every day 6,000 people take on new caring responsibilities.
  • Every year two million people take on new caring responsibilities.
  • Most carers (5.7 million) are aged over 18 and the peak age for caring is 50 to 59.
  • 1.5 million carers are aged over the age of 60.
  • There are 175,000 young people under the age of 18 who provide care, 13,000 of these provide care for 50 hours or more per week.

Jamie SmithOn Wednesday 27th March a number of Crossroads carers and clients were entertained at the Penarth Conservative Club by Jamie Smith (pictured)  who played an eclectic mix of gaelic and Welsh folk music (including the beautiful Calon Lan) along with some sing-along classics.  Everyone seemed to enjoy Jamie’s relaxed and easy style along with a raffle and a very pleasant lunch.

New Crossroads Day Centre

We are delighted to announce that we have the opportunity to move our Day Centre to St John Bungalow on Barry Island with Saturday 6th April being our first opening day.

Although we have many lovely memories of our time spent in Bryneithin Day Centre over the past thirteen years we are now looking forward to our new venture. Our new Day Centre is both light and airy and has a lovely ‘feel’ about it. The bungalow has a large lounge/dining room, spacious kitchen, utility room, a small quiet room, and two toilets, one being a sparkling new shower room.

The bungalow also has a private secure court yard at the back of the premises which may well be a sun trap during the summer. We plan to have benches and tables in the court yard and in time we hope to have a small garden area where clients and care workers can develop their green fingers.
