The Vale of Glamorgan Council has launched a public consultation to consider future plans for the Bryneithin site in Dinas Powys.

Until early 2013, the building was a residential care home and the base for Crossroads Care in the Vale’s day centre.

The decision to close Bryneithin Care Home was taken in December 2009, after which no new clients were admitted. The home was closed in 2013 and a cabinet working group was then established to identify and appraise options for the future of the site that would meet the care and support needs of older people living in the Vale.

The decision to demolish the existing buildings was made because they were not fit to provide a high enough standard of modern care or accommodation. Two viable options identified by the working group are a residential development for older people and a care facility for older people. Both options could be developed by a private provider or a registered social landlord, such as a housing association.

However, the Council also wants to receive suggestions for other possible development ideas, hence the public consultation. The consultation period will last for eight weeks, from 22 July 2013 until 13 September 2013.
