New dementia guide provides support and advice

The Alzheimer’s Society has published a new booklet to help those diagnosed with a form of dementia.

The aim of ‘the Dementia Guide’, which has been part-funded by the Department of Health, is to help people understand more about dementia, including the different types of the disease, the treatments that are available, and how to live as well as possible. The guide also includes information on planning, services and support.

Although it has been produced for people with a diagnosis of dementia, the Dementia Guide will also be a valuable resource for family members and  friends, as it offers guidance on taking on a caring role. It is also hoped that it will enhance the advice and support GPs and other health professionals give to their patients, and increase the overall rate of dementia diagnosis.
