Older People’s Commissioner for Wales report to examine value of services

Older People Thumbs UpThe  Older People’s Commissioner for Wales is planning to publish a new report making an economic business case for community services during February 2014.

The current economic climate and unprecedented budgetary cuts are changing the public services landscape in Wales, and this report is being published as very difficult decisions are being made on non-statutory services.

As you will be aware, closing down or terminating services such as libraries and  community centres will have huge implications. These services are viewed as lifelines by older people, enabling them to visit the places that matter to  them, providing a sense of empowerment and independence, a range of physical and mental health benefits, and contribute towards their general wellbeing.

Rural Vale benefits from flexible bus service

Greenlinks MinibusA new flexible bus service will operate Monday to Friday between 8:15am and 6:15pm and will provide a link between Llantwit Major, Cowbridge, Bridgend Town Centre and the surrounding villages. There are guideline routes for each day which are flexible depending on demand.

To request a seat on this service please call the freephone number 0800 294 1113 between the hours of 09:00 – 13:00 Monday to Friday. (If no requests are received the service will not run).

Crossroads Care creates Christmas cheer for Carers

Carers and their dependent relatives in the Vale of Glamorgan were invited to participate in some special festivities at the Crossroads Care in the Vale Christmas party on 12th December.

Thirty people – many wearing festive jumpers – attended the event at Penarth Conservative Club, organised by Susie Moreton, Crossroads Care’s Care Manager and Counsellor.

Attendees enjoyed top class entertainment from Rhiannon and Jenny of ‘Live Music Now’, who sang some classical pieces and an entertaining song about the twelve days of Christmas. The musicians also performed a medley of Christmas carols which encouraged some audience participation!
