Crossroads Care in the Vale NOT CLOSING

Fiona Guthrie, Scheme Manager of Crossroads Care in the Vale, has issued an urgent message to Carers following the recent announcement that Cardiff & Vale Crossroads Care is to close.

In her letter dated 12th June Fiona says, “You may have heard, or may hear soon, that Cardiff & Vale Crossroads Care has ceased offering a service to Carers in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. We would like to reassure you that our scheme, Crossroads Care in the Vale (EMI), is an entirely separate organisation from Cardiff & Vale Crossroads Care scheme. The consequences of their closure does not, and will not, impact on the care and support you receive from Crossroads Care in the Vale (EMI).

Cardiff & Vale Crossroads provided support to a generic range of Carers in Cardiff and, for the most part, non-EMI (dementia) support in the Vale of Glamorgan.

We however, Crossroads Care in the Vale (EMI), are a specialist service and only support Carers of those with a late onset mental illness, 98% of whom have dementia. Our service only operates in the Vale of Glamorgan.”

Fiona added, “It is important to recognise that Crossroads Care in the Vale (EMI);

  • is a separate charity and a separate company limited by guarantee, registered with both the Charity Commission and Companies House.
  • has independent funding streams and contractual obligations.
  • is registered and monitored separately by the Care & Social Services Inspectorate for Wales (CSSIW)
  • has its own Board of Trustees, management structures, care staff and auditors.
  • only offers services in the Vale of Glamorgan to Carers of those with dementia and has never operated in Cardiff.”

The staff at Crossroads Care in the Vale is extremely saddened to hear the news about the scheme in Cardiff and hope that the Carers affected will find alternative quality support. Any Carers concerned by this issue who would like to discuss the situation further are welcome to contact Fiona on (029) 2070 0057.
