Groups for Carers

Crossroads Care organises a number of social and support groups for carers of people with dementia throughout the Vale of Glamorgan. The group meetings are varied and cater for different people’s needs.

Carers are welcome to attend any group, not just the group in their area, and their cared-for relatives may also join the group meetings when trained care workers are present.

Crossroads also runs a series of groups for clients

Penarth Social Group is held at Stanwell Road Baptist Church Hall once a month (usually on the third Monday) from 2 until 3.30pm. Members enjoy talks / presentations from a range of guest speakers. This group is for Carers and their dependent relatives.

Barry Support Group is held at St David’s Church Hall, Colcot Road, Barry, once a month (usually on the fourth Monday) from 2 until 3.30 pm. This group is for carers only, and provides an opportunity to talk about any issues arising from the caring role.

Western Vale Social Group meets once a month (usually on the last Wednesday or Thursday) for a pub lunch in the Wick area. Carers and dependent relatives are all welcome.

The CAMEO Group (‘Come and Meet Each Other’) was set up for people whose caring role had ended. Although the stress of caring is over, it was recognised that there is often a sense of loss, and past carers benefit from sharing their experiences and supporting each other in this informal group. Again, members meet monthly for a pub lunch.
